MSFS 2024: Key Updates from the Dev Stream, Including Ray-Tracing News
As the months pass, anticipation is steadily building within the flight simulator community as the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 approaches. Although news about the latest version has been scarce since late last year, a recent developer stream from Microsoft and Asobo brought some fresh details-along with what might have been an unintended hint about the release date.
The possible slip-up occurred during a discussion about one of the included aircraft, an enhanced version of the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet, which is currently available for purchase in the in-game store.
Jorg Neumann from the Microsoft Flight Simulator team mentioned the possibility of removing the download from the store to avoid disappointing those who might buy it in September, only to find it included in MSFS 2024 shortly after. Could this suggest a September or October release? We’ll have to wait and see.
Microsoft is set to appear at FlightSimExpo 2024 in Las Vegas at the end of June, and we fully expect them to showcase the new sim in all its splendor by then.
A world refreshed
We also learned that the entire globe in MSFS 2024 will be refreshed with the latest data from Bing maps. While geographical features like mountains will remain largely unchanged, many inhabited areas will benefit significantly from the updated data.
There was a brief mention that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will support ray tracing, with development currently underway. However, it’s uncertain whether this feature will be available at launch or introduced later.
With numerous updates still planned for the current version of MSFS before the 2024 release, there will be plenty to discuss in the coming months.
